As my previous blog and will now continue with the story. I believe I went on a mission for many reason that I won't get into now but one reason was to understand the atonement more for when I met my husband.
Let me know recount how we met. It is a small world and the Lord really knows what he is doing. My best friend and her first husband were in a car accident a few months after I returned home from the mission. He was killed and she was badly injured. The next year and a half we spent a lot of time together going to institute, dinner, going to the temple, going on a cruise, etc. She really strengthened my testimony of how the atonement can help us with sorrows we face in this life. Spring of 2005 she joins LDSsingles.com at the request of her sister. She starts writing Brent who at the time lived in Virginia going to school. The wrote back and forth and he came to Utah to meet her and her family and friends. I was going to meet him when unknown to me he already knew my family. Brent and my sister Katye went to school in Colorado together and were really good friends. He played baseball and she played softball. He knew my family really well.
Fast forward to Fall 2005...Brent and Mary are now engaged. November 2005 Mary calls and says she is at Fudruckers in Orem to come and meet her and Brent there. I lived in Provo at the time. I show up to see Brent and Mary and Brent's friend Rock and his girlfriend at the time. Yes I felt like a huge third wheel. I left the restaurant knowing I would see Rock again. I didn't know how he had a girlfriend and I was not about to get involved with someone who was already with someone else...that is just drama for me. Already delt with plenty of drama in high school and college. But I couldn't get Rock out of my head. He was not my type. Having long blonde hair, serving a mission as a service missionary at the church storehouse, yet dating. I couldn't figure him out.
Now we hit December....Brent calls and says Rock wants to go on a double date with me and Brent and Mary. I guess Rock and the other girl didn't work out. First date we went ice skating and Rock told me all about his past. I will not disclose it but I was taken back a little by what he was telling me. Let just say it was a miracle he was ice skating. He was in a coma due some bad decision that left him having many strokes and he having to learn to walk, talk, read, write, etc. Basically learn to live all over again.
After the first date I knew he was a good man for being totally honest with me. After the date ended he walked me to the door saying good bye. I thought I would never see him again since he didn't get my phone number. Well he got it from Mary and called the next day. I was leaving to go out of town for the new year and told him I would call him after I got back. The whole trip I thought about him. I called when I got home and we went on our second date. He was such a gentlemen and treated me so well.
April 2006...still dating Rock when he was going to go work for his brother selling satellite dishes from May to September. First he was going to Denver, then Iowa, then a week before he was to leave he ended up going to Kansas City, Missouri where I served a mission. he lived 10 minutes from Liberty Jail. Sister Sweat one of my companions and I were planning on going back to Missouri to see Pam (a lady that got baptized while we were serving) son Tanner get baptized. I couldn't believe it.
Rock and I talked on the phone and talked about marriage. I thought he would come home, we would date for a couple more month, get engaged and get married in spring of 2007. I felt at peace at the thought of marrying this man despite his past and knew he had applied the atonement in his life.
June 2006 visited Missouri and Rock bought a ring in Missouri proposing at Adam-ondi-ahman. We got married in October of 2006. About a year after meeting.
